WHY THE NAME “BLACK GIRL OUT LOUD” ?

The name “Black Girl Out Loud” is a re-appropriation or reclaiming of stereotypes that have long affected the imagery of how black womanhood has been defined by society for centuries. Black woman have been called loud, angry or even ill-mannered by people who do not live or share our experiences. We are taking back the idea of black women being “loud” as a generalization and creating a space that celebrates black women existing in all spaces through their stories. 

WHO IS BLACK GIRL OUT LOUD MADE FOR?

The idea of this platform is to create a safe space where discussions can be had and community can be made through shared experiences. This website and safe space was made for black women by black women. We are welcoming of people who want to celebrate black women but the platform will always showcase and prioritize the experiences of black women. 

WHAT WILL BLACK GIRL OUT LOUD BE DOING?

We now have the opportunity and power to redefine what it means to be a black woman in almost every space. We want to celebrate black womanhood by sharing the stories and experiences of black women around the world. We will be sharing stories that highlight successful black women in different spaces. We will also be providing articles and blog think pieces about subjects that are of interest to our audience.
